Blake, Warroad, Gophers, SCSU pick up Hockey Day wins

Hockey Day Minnesota took place on Saturday, Jan. 18. There were two boys high school games and a WCHA women's game played at Parade Stadium in Minneapolis and an NCHC game played in St. Cloud, Minn.

Here are the results of those games:

Boys

Warroad 5, Minneapolis 1

MINNEAPOLIS -- Senior forward Owen Meeker had two goals and an assist, freshman forward Jayson Shaugabay had a goal and an assist and senior forward Grant Slykynsky had two assists to lead the third-ranked Warriors (Class A, 16-1-0) to the win at Parade Stadium.

Warroad outshot Minneapolis (7-8-2) 26-19 in the game.

Blake 3, Blaine 2

MINNEAPOLIS -- University of Minnesota recruit Joe Miller scored at 11:26 of the third period for the game-winner for The Blake School (13-4-0) over Blaine (10-6-0) at Parade Stadium.

Miller, a junior forward, also had an assist for the Bears, who outshot the Bengals 40-28. Senior forwards Brett Witzke and Gavin Best also had goals for eighth-ranked (Class 2A) Blake.

Senior forward Cole Hansen and junior forward Ben Wallraff had goals for the Bengals.

Women

Minnesota 2, Ohio State 1

MINNEAPOLIS -- Emily Oden, a sophomore forward from Edina, Minn., scored at 2:12 of the second period for the game-winner for the top-ranked Gophers (20-2-3) to the WCHA win at Parade Stadium. Amy Potomak, a sophomore forward from Aldergrove, British Columbia, had the other goal for Minnesota, which salvaged a series split with the fifth-ranked Buckeyes (14-6-4).

Sophie Jaques, a sophomore defenseman from Toronto, Ontario, had the goal for Ohio State.

Men

SCSU 2, UMD 0

ST. CLOUD, Minn. -- David Hrenak made 27 saves for his first shutout of the season to lead the Huskies (8-10-4) to the NCHC series sweep at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center.

Nick Poehling, a senior forward from Lakeville, Minn., tipped in a shot from senior defenseman Jack Ahcan (Savage, Minn.) at 18:25 of the third period for the game-winner. Sophomore forward Micah Miller (Grand Rapids, Minn.) added an an empty-net goal at 19:25 of the third period for St. Cloud State.

Senior Hunter Shepard (Cohasset, Minn.) had 24 saves for the eighth-ranked Bulldogs (12-8-2).
