Board approves more classrooms
With recent kindergarten registration numbers currently at 172, plus 24 possible retentions, members of the Dickinson Public Schools Board voted unanimously during a meeting Monday to add additional classrooms for the 2010-2011 school year.
With the move of the fifth-grade students to Berg Elementary for one year, the two additional kindergarten classrooms would be located at Lincoln and Jefferson elementaries. Adding these two sections of kindergarten, the total number of K-6 classrooms would increase from 55 in 2009-2010 to 57 in 2010-2011, according to DPS information.
The DPS Budget Committee recently decided to allow the district to hire two additional kindergarten instructors. The additions are expected to cost about $100,000 for salary and benefits, officials said.
