ABERDEEN, S.D. — An explosion at Harms Oil maintenance shop in Aberdeen injured at least three people Monday afternoon.

Emergency officials responded to a report of a structure fire at 38490 U.S. Highway 12, which is west of Aberdeen, at 2:08 p.m. Monday, Dec. 31, according to emergency dispatch reports.

Jason Harms, co-owner of Harms Oil, confirmed the injuries to the Aberdeen American News.

Harms Oil Company offers services and products related to petroleum and has locations throughout South Dakota, Nebraska and Iowa, according to the company website.

Multiple agencies responded to the incident and remained on scene for hours after the initial explosion.

The incident is under investigation by the South Dakota State Fire Marshall with assistance from the Brown County Sheriff's Office, according to Tony Mangan, spokesman for the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.

The state fire marshal became involved upon request from the Brown County Sheriff's Office.
