Registered sex offender who left North Dakota State Hospital in custody
JAMESTOWN, N.D. — A registered sex offender who left the North Dakota State Hospital without authorization Tuesday is back in custody, according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
Jerry Roy Stewart, 30, did not return from an authorized 15-minute pass issued at 7:45 p.m. Tuesday. Stewart had been civilly committed to the State Hospital for chemical dependency issues. He is also a registered sex offender with a history of violent crimes, according to the Highway Patrol.
A motorist traveling on U.S. Highway 281 south of Jamestown reported Stewart's location and he was taken into custody without incident at 6:40 a.m. Wednesday.
