West Fargo graduate Andy Young added to Diamondbacks 40-man roster
PHOENIX — West Fargo High School graduate Andy Young has made it to the big leagues.
The Arizona Diamondbacks major league baseball team added Young, an infielder, to the team's 40-man roster Wednesday, which is now at 39 players.
The 2012 West Fargo graduate played 133 games this year in Double-A and Triple-A minor league baseball, primarily with the Reno Aces and Jackson Generals, Arizona’s affiliates. He hit 29 home runs this year and boasts a .271 batting average.
The Diamondbacks nabbed Young during his current Rule 5 year, protecting him from being selected in December’s Rule 5 draft. The draft lets clubs without 40-man rosters select unprotected players.
Earlier this year, Young was named to the Arizona Diamondbacks 2019 Organizational All-Star team.
Young was acquired by the Diamondbacks organization through a trade with the St. Louis Cardinals in December. The Cardinals drafted him in the 37th round of the 2016 MLB Draft.
Young was the 2012 North Dakota Class A senior player of the year, and was also named player of the year in the state. His college career started at the University of Jamestown. He then went to Neosho Community College in Kansas for one season before wrapping up his college career at Indiana State.
