DULUTH -- Two snowmobilers were injured Friday night when they and their machines landed in a ravine, the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office reported. According to the report, Victoria Lynn Spandl, 52, of Randall, Minn., and Howard John Hedin, 69, of Swanville, Minn., were traveling in a group of eight northbound in the ditch of U.S. Highway 53 about 15 miles north of Orr. Both Spandl and Hedin went over a rock cliff, landing about 30 feet below in the bottom of a ravine. The Sheriff's Office placed the time of the incident as 10:45 p.m.
AITKIN, Minn. — A 38-year-old McGregor father faces multiple criminal charges after his 2 1/2-year-old son suffered serious injuries from being shot in the eye with a BB gun at his McGregor residence. According to the Aitkin County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy responded Feb. 10 to the Riverwood Healthcare Center’s emergency room on another matter when a seriously injured child and his mother arrived in the emergency room. The child had been in the care of Dale Vernon Preston, his father, when he suffered a BB gunshot to his eye.
MINNEAPOLIS — The University of Minnesota has extended women's basketball coach Lindsay Whalen's contract through 2024, the university announced Friday, Feb. 14. Whalen, the decorated former Gophers and Minnesota Lynx player, is 36-21 in her two seasons as head coach. The extension became official on Friday after being approved by the Board of Regents. The Gophers are 15-10 this season with a 5-9 mark in the Big Ten.
MAHNOMEN, Minn. — The gunshot wound that killed a Mahnomen man Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 11, was self-inflicted, local authorities said in a news release identifying the victim. Emergency responders on Tuesday found a wounded 29-year-old Jonathan Lafriniere while responding to a report of a person who had been shot, according to the Mahnomen County Sheriff's Office. Lafriniere was first brought to a Mahnomen hospital and then flown to Fargo for treatment, where he died.
MAHNOMEN, Minn. — The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating after a man found with a gunshot wound in Mahnomen on Tuesday, Feb. 11, died from his injuries, local authorities said. Officers responded to a report of a man with a gunshot wound in Mahnomen early Tuesday afternoon, according to a news release from the Mahnomen County Sheriff's Office. Emergency responders first brought the man to a local hospital, but he was eventually flown to Fargo where he died.

The new website offers more accessibility to features as well as being more mobile friendly. Based on findings from a digital marketing audit conducted in 2018, a news release said, Explore Minnesota's website was rebuilt to better meet the needs of the traveling public, as well as the Minnesota tourism industry.
BEMIDJI -- A 33-year-old Cass Lake man was sentenced to just over 12 years in prison this week for the distribution of child pornography. According to a press release from U.S. Attorney Erica MacDonald, Jared Ross Boswell pleaded guilty on Aug. 15, 2019, and was then sentenced to 145 months on Monday, Feb. 10, by Judge Donovan W. Frank in Bemidji.
