FARGO — North Dakota Gov.
INTERNATIONAL FALLS, Minn. — The Voyageurs Wolf Project posted to its Facebook page Wednesday, Feb.
It was in Reno, Nev., when James SanGrait and his friend Brad Kuntz, a Grand Forks native, got the chance to put the car on a lift. The springs had finally given up.
BETTENDORF, Iowa — Joe Whitty, the founder of Happy Joe's Pizza & Ice Cream Parlor, died Tuesday morning, Oct. 29, at the age of 82, according to a post on the company's Facebook page. "It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Happy Joe’s Pizza & Ice Cream Founder, Happy Joe Whitty," the post said. It went on to say he died "surrounded by his loving family and close friends." Whitty was born Sept. 10, 1937, in Minot, N.D.
FARGO — The oil boom has affected not just North Dakota, but Hollywood too. Following a handful of western films in the '40s and '50s, there were few films that took place in the state until the late 2000s. Since 2014, at least one movie has been set here each year and the oil fields in western North Dakota have often been used in the plot. Not every movie gets North Dakota right and a couple of films could have easily taken place in any small Midwestern town.
I’m certain that former Senator Heidi Heitkamp has a lot to regret these days. Not winning her re-election campaign last year is no doubt one of them, but you’d think she’d be regretful about things less self-serving than that too. Like her campaign’s outing of sexual assault survivors, perhaps. Or her state political party’s efforts to suppress the hunter vote.
Measure 1, the Hollywood-bankrolled “ethics” amendment North Dakota voters cast their ballots for last year, was backed by a campaign that spent a lot of time vilifying lobbyists. But now lobbyists, including one who works for the Measure 1 campaign , are applying to serve on that commission. A loophole in the measure means they probably can.
North Dakota voters made a grievous mistake when they, at the behest of a campaign funded by a California billionaire, approved the “Marsy’s Law” amendment to the state constitution. The fallout from that mistake continues to unfold in state courts.
U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar from Minnesota is expected to announce her plans for the 2020 presidential election live at 1:30 p.m. at Boom Island Park in Minneapolis.
