MENAHGA, Minn. — A long time ago (last month, actually), in a galaxy far, far away (called Menahga), a noble science-fiction fan designed and constructed an X-wing starfighter, made famous in the "Star Wars" films. Greg Anderson utilized foam core board, plywood and barrels to craft the half-scale model. It stands 18 feet long, 10 feet high and 14 feet wide. It all began with a raft he planned to build. He looked at 15-gallon barrels "and said, 'Those are the perfect size for a turbine for an X-wing,'" Anderson recalled.
PARK RAPIDS, Minn.—If you did a double-take and could've sworn you saw actor Josh Duhamel, 45, strolling around Park Rapids in western Minnesota lakes country this past week...well, you did. He was on vacation in the area where his family has a lake cabin. Duhamel, who is also the spokesman for North Dakota tourism, was first spotted, naturally, at the movie theater. The star posed for a photo with Park Theater owner Pam Wasche Wilson.

Hanson's three living daughters — accepted the military honor on his behalf at the Park Rapids American Legion in northwest Minnesota. Many of Hanson's descendants attended the ceremony: eight grandchildren and their spouses, six great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandkids.

Sixteen suspects were arrested in one day alone, according to Hubbard County Sheriff Cory Aukes. He issued a news release Monday, April 2, stating that investigators focused their investigation on people who sold or distributed meth and prescription drugs.
MENAHGA, Minn.—Sisters Nicole and Brenna Grangroth may have opposite personalities, but they share a single passion: dog mushing. Last weekend, the duo competed in the John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon, mingling with world-class mushers. Established in 1980, the Beargrease race is the longest sled dog race in the lower 48 states. The sisters attend Menahga High School. Nicole, 15, raced in the junior class division, traversing 120 miles through the hills of the North Shore with her eight furry teammates. She completed the course in 15 hours, 44 minutes.
NEVIS, Minn. — Gavin Becker has set the bar for "most romantic" marriage proposal sky high — literally. With the help of his family, the 2015 Nevis High School graduate carved the message "MARRY ME" onto Eighth Crow Wing Lake. On Sunday, Jan. 7, Gavin flew his longtime girlfriend, Olivia Toft, over the gigantic conversation heart.
MENAHGA, Minn. — An 8-year-old girl is expected to be at a Minneapolis hospital for another three or four months after she and two other children were burned after an apparent backyard bonfire explosion in Menahga in northwest Minnesota last month. According to the Wadena County Sheriff report, at approximately 8 p.m. on Sept. 29., the caller reported hearing a loud bang, followed by screaming at the southeast Menahga home. There has been no official details yet on what caused the bonfire explosion.
LAPORTE, Minn.—Scientists say a dog's sense of smell is anywhere from 10,000 to 100,000 times more acute than ours. So it should come as no surprise that the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources has four zebra mussel-sniffing dogs. In late October, Nicole Kovar, a DNR invasive species specialist, brought a dog-sniffing team to work on Garfield, Benedict and Leech lakes near Walker and Laporte in north-central Minnesota..
